Do you ever dream about becoming an amazing actor? This class will help support you in that dream, because becoming an admired actor is achievable! In our ongoing Actors’ Workout Group, we’ll be incorporating important improv techniques at the beginning of each class, then go to work on scene study and complete character development. You’ll learn how to prepare all your characters by understanding the material, making strong committed choices and carrying them out. Using scripts, scenes, and monologues, you’ll learn how to identify and solve any acting problems, plus how to break down a script quickly and thoroughly.

Whether your primary focus is stage, TV, film, or just for fun, Maggie will guide you gently, but clearly in becoming a real actor. You’ll learn core-acting techniques, such as using action verbs to score your script, improvising to relax you and help you find the true character, plus, what to do if you feel nervous before an audition or a performance. These techniques will allow you to become your own best director. You’ll develop your confidence so that when you audition, you’ll go into a casting session as a professional actor. With consistent coaching and practice you will learn what it is that makes acting look easy and believable!!

Up until that point no one had ever cared enough to ask me if that is what I wanted. I want to be that person for my students. I want to let them know that I believe in them and that, yes, they too can have a career as an actor. I still work as an actor and I still take classes myself. It makes me so happy to pass my knowledge and training on to my students so that they can go into their auditions feeling confident and enjoy a successful career.”

Maggie Egan-Cummings (Guest Instructor) has been a working professional actress for over 30 years. She has appeared as an on-camera principal performer in over 600 TV and for seven years was the on-camera spokesperson for THE DISNEY CHANNEL amassing a credit of 400 commercials for Disney alone. Maggie has recorded hundreds of radio commercials, plus more than 30 corporate training films as the spokesperson or as a principal performer.

Maggie got her first big break when she was chosen from tens of thousands of actors to appear on the first season of STAR SEARCH. It was this show that allowed Maggie the entrée to Hollywood. Over the years, Maggie has appeared in over 50 TV shows, including a recurring role in the Sci-Fi hit BABYLON 5 for six years and then continuing her role on the spin-off, CRUSADE. Among the many TV shows Maggie has performed in, her recent guest star role on Fox TV’s STANDOFF was regarded as “the emotional core of the show,” per writer/producer Carlos Coto (currently with JOURNEYMAN on NBC). Some of her other TV shows include CSI, ER, and MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, and feature films such as WHAT WOMAN WANT with Mel Gibson; EXECUTIVE DECISION with Kurt Russell, and COMMUNION with Christopher Walken.

She is a proud member of SAG, AFTRA, and AEA and has taught in other professional acting academies plus local schools. She’s even held her own acting workshops over the years in both Texas and California. Maggie herself has trained with renowned acting coach Gordon Hunt, (Helen Hunt’s father) and is currently studying improv with actor/writer Andy Goldberg (”Comedy Improv” by Andy Goldberg). She is a proud founding member of the Malibu Stage Repertory Company in Malibu, California.

Hi everybody,

Please tune in on Friday, July 6, 2007 to “Standoff” on Fox at 9pm. I’m guest starring as Lauraine Reiker, who, along with my “husband,” played by John Billingsley fom ABC’s “The Nine,” is kidnapped and held hostage.

I hope you enjoy the show. It was a pleasure working with everyone from the show. At the top of that list is Writer/Producer, Juan Carlos Coto, and, of course, director, Jonathon Glassner. What a wonderful cast, too. I loved working with everyone… Ron Livingston, Rosemarie DeWitt, Gina Torres and Michael Cudlitz, who literally swept me off my feet. All of the cast were so welcoming and kind and so very talented. I loved every minute of working with them.

Hi there!

I just shot a new Hefty commercial. Hefty makes trash bags, as we all know, but this commercial was for their zip lock storage bags. It’s so cute. Imagine me and a couple of girl friends putting away our left over food, and we’re standing around the kitchen having a “Sex and the City” kind of sassy, frank conversation about our Hefty bags. It starts out with us putting food in the bags, and I say, “If I had a man like Hefty, he’d be strong, stronger than ever.” And I turn and put the food into the freezer. At that point we dissolve into a fantasy of me in an Ice Palace with a beautiful Chrystal Chandlier, rolling clouds surrounding my feet, and there I am with this 20 something handsome hunk with a V shaped body, open shirt, blue eyes…you get the picture. He twirls me around and dips me, we almost kiss, then he picks me up and carries me off like Rhett Butler and Scarlet O’Hara.

When I was done shooting, the producer said, “OK, Maggie, that’s a wrap, you can go now.” I screamed in desperation, “No, you can’t make me leave!” I laughed so hard with my two actress girlfriends, Rosalee Mayieux and Nancy Williams. What a blast!

I’d love it if you guys would jot down the time, the date and the channel (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) when you see my commercial and email me the information. Believe it or not, the residual payments I make as an actress on commercials is monitored by people hired to sit in a room and watch TV who mark down that information. Sounds like a cushy job, huh? But… a bit antiquated, if you ask me. So, any and all information is very much appreciated.

Hi guys,

I was invited to sing on the plane from Burbank to Oklahoma City last week. Then I gave a shameless plug for my CD and gave out my web address. Yes, I am a brazen hussy. Can’t help it really. Don’t even want to, truth be told. Then I went on to a PrePaid Legal Convention where I received a “Rookie of the Year Award.” I’ll just do anything to get in front of a room of 10,000 people. Last summer I was selected to sing at a PPL convention in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel. I got a standing O from those 9,000 people. Felt purty darn good, I must say. I do love this business, and it’s the perfect compliment to my acting career.

Speaking of which, please watch “Malcolm in the Middle” this Sunday, March 10th, I play a guidance counselor for Reese. Then on April 15th (tax day!), I play a jury foreperson on “Ally McBeal.”

So, all is well, and I do send best wishes to all of you.

Someone asked me how old the character “Jane” would be if she were to appear on Legend of the Rangers.

I’m thinking they were seeing me as early 40’s by the last Crusade I did. Does anyone know how long between the end of Crusade and the start of B5 Rangers? I heard it was about five years. If that is so, then Jane would be mid-late 40’s which, believe me, I could easily play.

Hi everybody,

Jim and I are back from a beautiful vacation in Maui. Woweeee Zoweee! So great. So relaxing. Such heaven. I snorkled, I swam, I got facials and massages, and water termed (pronounced “term - maid”), I went horseback riding, and even golfed at The Wailea Resort, Emerald Course. That made Jim very happy. We had a great time. And Emmie had a great time with her cousins and our incredible friends at Donna’s Daycare. Our friend, Steve Austin, from Babylon 5 was kind enough to house sit, and took really good care of our cat, Fidji, so all in all, life feels very good right now.

I thought you all might want to check out the attached email with news of the project I have been cast in. I hope you will check out the website and sign in on the guest book if you haven’t yet done so. By the way, a friend I made in Sydney, Australia last October I introduced to the team at “Psy Ops” and I’m happy to say she seems interested in participating in the project as well. I’m sure you all know her from “Farscape.” I’m talking about Virginia Hey. Isn’t that great? She is such a really wonderful person.

Well, still need to unpack and get back to the real world. So, I’m signing off and sending my love and thanks to all.

I loved this note from my friend and just wanted to pass on these great words to live by.

This is what The Dalai Lama has to say on the millennium, which began 01/01/2001…

Instructions for Life in the new millennium from the Dalai Lama:

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

3. Follow the three R’s: Respect for self, respect for others responsibility for all your actions.

4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

Hi everybody,

I have just completed filming on the new Mel Gibson film, “What Women Want.” My part is not very big, but I am reminded “There are no small parts, only small actors.” A part of me just hates that saying. Another part of me realizes there is alot of truth to that saying, and I think it has to do with the attitude you keep while on the set. I spent a whole lot of time doing plenty of nothing. The good news is that I had a really great trailer to do it in. The crew was extremely nice to me, I enjoyed everyone I worked with. I was a little nervous about working with Nancy Meyers, the director, but she was simply a true professional, and a great role model for women. I am so grateful to her for giving me the job out of the 900 actresses I heard she saw for my role.

Mel Gibson was a hoot to work with. Our scene starts with him telling myself and some other women who work at our Ad Agency a joke. The call for “action” doesn’t start until we are really laughing, so Mel told us a ton of jokes before the day was over. I wish I could remember them all. He was kind enough to allow me to take a picture with him, and he also signed my script. So did Valerie Perine, Delta Burke (who also allowed me to get a picture with them. You can’t believe how truly beautiful she is, and very approachable), Sarah Paulson (currrently on the WB show, “Jack and Jill”, and was in “The Other Sister” with Diane Keaton), Judy Greer (she did a nude scene with my old “ER” pal, George Clooney in “Three Kings”), and Mark Fuerstein (he played a boyfriend on “Caroline in the City” and is currently in “Rules of Engagement with Tommy Lee Jones, and Samuel L. Jackson). He also let me get a picture with him. He’s a really, nice man. I wish him so much continued good luck.

“Psy-Ops” is coming together nicely. This is an independent feature that I have been asked to be in. I’m told it’s a little like “The X Men,” so everyone is hoping that movie does well so that there will be a need for a similar themed movie. Keep your fingers crossed, say your prayers, light your candles, or whatever it is you do to affirm good things for me on this new movie. All your good wishes are so appreciated, and please know that I send my love back at ya!

Thanks…and in the words of dear old Dean Martin, “Keep those cards and letters comin’ in.” I LOVE ‘em.
